ALL IN ONE PLACE: San Esteban, Ilocos Sur

WELCOME TO
SAN ESTEBAN ILOCOS SUR
San Esteban was founded by Agustinian friars in 1625 but was always attached to Nueva Coveta (present-day Burgos) and to the municipality of Santiago until 1911. It was once a visita of Narvacan because of a shortage of ministers. The Spaniards named the pueblo (the equivalent of a municipality in present-day terms) San Esteban (formerly known as Cabagbagototan) because they have received reports of a vagabond named Iban having been stoned to death and beheaded by hostile natives in the place called “Naglawlawayan,” which is an early place of worship by the natives, and currently the site of the municipal cemetery. “Iban” is the Ilocano equivalent of “Stephen,” hence the pueblo being named San Esteban.

     1.BATERIA WATCHTOWER

BRGY. BATERIA, SAN ESTEBAN ILOCOS SUR
The first thing that stands out from Bateria Watchtower is its unique color and shape. The white stone makes it stand out among all other structures in the area, while the round shape was the design often used for coastal watchtowers around the country. Once inside, you’ll notice that there are several small windows that give a glimpse of the outside, another staple from watchtowers of the period. You wouldn’t want to miss taking that glimpse—it offers several picturesque views of the sea.
You can visit Bateria Watchtower for free. However, going to Bateria Watchtower is not, so you must still bring money for the fare which depends on where you come from. Also, Bateria Watchtower is only 1.6 Km from the town hall.

BRGY. APATOT SAN ESTEBAN ILOCOS SUR

This cove is located in San Esteban, Ilocos Sur.  It is more of a picnic place than a swimming area.  This area was used towards the end of World War II to unload arms using submarines and supplied them to the USAFIP, NL.
